‘Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom’ Starring Jason Momoa at Warner Bros. CinemaCon – Deadline

A half-hour of DC material in a two-hour Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon was the first-ever trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Director James Wan couldn’t be here at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, nor could star Jason Momoa, but both made video appearances.

Wan said Aquaman the sequel visits “beautiful strange new worlds” where it explores “interesting new characters”.

“It’s an action-adventure story with a really fun communication between Arthur and Orm,” he said. “Orm was a villain the first time, but this time Arthur needs him.”

Lots of run-ins with Black Manta, serious speeches from Aquaman – who has a new baby – and Black Trident’s nemesis has plenty of power. The trailer begins with Aquaman returning to his lighthouse home, contemplating life with Temuera Morrison’s Tom Curry. But there’s still plenty of drama and mayhem underwater as Aquaman battles a huge submarine below and enemies on the beach.

“I’m supposed to be a king, to unite the land and the sea,” says Momoa’s Aquaman. There is action below the Earth’s surface in the Arctic. In a battle scene, Aquaman tells Black Manta, “No one beats my brother but me.” At which point, Patrick Wilson’s King Orm says, “Don’t call me brother!” Says Black Trident, the new enemy, “I will destroy Aquaman and everything he holds dear!”

“Sometimes not giving up is the most heroic thing you can do,” says Morrison’s character.

“If you lead,” King Orm tells Aquaman, “Atlantis will follow.”

Amber Heard’s Mera has a scene in a battle scene.

Aquaman it is the highest-grossing DC film to date, at $1.1 billion. The sequel hits theaters on December 20.

CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners from around the world, continues through Thursday at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
