NEXT RACE: Sonsio Grand Prix at Road AmericaJune 18 (USA Network, 1 p.m. ET)

CONOR DALY, NO. 20 BITNILE.COM CHEVROLET

CONOR DALY, No. 20 BITNILE.COM Chevrolet, Finished 15th: “Once we sorted out some of the chaos early in the race, we weren’t bad. We were trying to run with Rinus (VeeKay) but we had to switch to the next strategy very quickly. We just lost a bit on the strategy side of the race. In the end the car was good enough to make some moves on some people and improve our position. Not the most fun track, but we saved something today. It’s one of our best road course finishes in a while, so that’s great.”

FOR NOTE:

• Conor Daly started today’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix from 15th, his best road course qualifying effort of the year. He chose to start the 100-lap race with a set of Firestone’s alternative green Firehawk tires. After avoiding an incident on the opening lap, he continued until lap 17 when he made his first pit stop.

• Crew No. 20 BITNILE.COM Chevrolet provided Daly with a set of black Firehawks for his upcoming stay. A full course caution on lap 43 would give him the opportunity for his next stop, which he made four laps later. With a three-stop strategy, he entered for the last time on the 67th lap.

• He again opted for black tires for the duration of the event. At the end of the event, 13 of the 20 laps were run under caution. Daly avoided all the incidents around him and gained two positions in the final five laps. He took the checkered flag in 15th position.

RINUS WEEKAY, NO. 21 BITNILE.COM CHEVROLET

RINUS WEEKAY, No. 21 BITNILE.COM Chevrolet, finished 18th: “I worked really hard and I was in the Top 10. On the last restart, I got hit from behind and lost momentum. I had to go defensive there and I got a lot of marbles in my tires, then I couldn’t go back. It was difficult. I tried to keep my car on the track, which I did, but it was only good enough for P18. There was much more in the car. I am very sad. I learned a lot and it’s nice to have a weekend off before Road America.”

FOR NOTE:

• In yesterday’s qualifying, Rinus VeeKay missed qualifying for the second round by 0.0011 seconds and had to settle for 14th starting position. He started the race in black Firestone Firehawks, which he extended until the 36th lap.

• For his second stint, he raced on the alternate green tire. It moved strongly into the Top 10, ranking as high as #8. In a two-stop strategy, he made his second and final pit stop on lap 63. He switched to a set of black Firehawks for the rest of the race.

• On the final restart on lap 96, VeeKay was hit from behind by another competitor. No. 21 BITNILE.COM The Chevrolet went off the line and into the marble and VeeKay struggled to keep the car on course. Losing momentum, several cars were able to surround him and he dropped from 12th to 18th, where he would finish.
