‘Sound of Freedom’ Passes $100 Million at the Box Office – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Angel Studios’ surprise summer hit The sound of Freedom clicked over $100 million on its 16th day of release.

The non-major studio Hollywood film, which has been a showcase gift, has dynamized the red state, the flyover state and the faith-based audience crowd, all of whom are intrigued by the anti-child-trafficking theme. Angel Studios has raised P&A funding and is paying back its investors, while ticket sales were reportedly also funded by right-wing groups, making those tickets available to those who can’t afford to go to the cinema.

Angel Studios opened this film on the 4th of July, a date many studios would never consider opening a film given the slow nature of the film’s progress. But the distributor knew the title would resonate in the heart. Also, the film also stars Jesus aka The Passion of the ChristJim Caviezel is.

The film posted an opening day of $14.2M plus previews, with a 3-day first of $19.6M and an amazing second weekend of $27.2M, +39%. Out of Nowhere Picture Fever is reminiscent of Clint Eastwood’s record-breaking Warner Bros. title, american sniper, that appealed heavily to red states, as well as My big Greek wedding, an indie title that no one ever thought would gross $241 million in 2002 (again, a very different old audience for that romantic comedy). Weekday earnings have been strong ever since The Sound of Freedom‘s opens in the $4-5 million range. yesterday, The Sound of Freedom earned $4.5 million sending its domestic total to $100.7 million. Paramount Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning was first with $4.7 million and a total of $95.8 million. This is all before Barbie AND Oppenheimer dominate with a total of $150 million+ this weekend starting tonight in previews.

Alejandro Monteverde’s film was originally developed at Fox International, then bought back by the filmmakers in the whirlwind of the Disney-Fox merger. I don’t regret going indie here.
