Spider-Verse’s Lord and Miller Interview – Crew Call Podcast – Deadline

After the massive weekend success of Sony Animation Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, there are plenty of rival studios looking to execute their comic book IP differently on the big screen. All too often, animated superhero projects are released directly at home (think Warner Bros. DC’s countless superhero movies like 2010’s Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam and avant-garde Disney+/Marvel Studio series What if?). Leave it to the guys who surprised many people by winning almost half a billion The Lego Movie, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, to once again revolutionize the family animated genre.

Says God, “The thing to keep in mind and that’s simple to understand is that writers’ pay has gone down 25% and budgets have gone up and executive compensation has gone up. It’s not sustainable that way. I think a fair deal is absolutely within reach.”

Spider Man: Beyond the spider web grabbed the best opening of the summer to date with $120.6 million domestically, the third-best opening ever domestically for a Spider Man film, with a global opening total of $209 million.
