Zendaya & Timothee Chalamet bring star power to Warner’s CineEurope screening – Deadline

Warner Bros.’s CineEurope screening here in Barcelona was a star-studded affair, packed with Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet who spoke Dune: Part Twoas well as their respective upcoming titles The challengers AND Wonka. Proceedings kicked off with a pre-recorded introductory video featuring President of International Theatrical Distribution Andrew Cripps zipping along the 405 to Barbie car, and featuring Margot Robbie. Helen Mirren, who narrates Barbiealso narrated the presentation out loud.

On stage, Cripps was sporty Flash branded sneakers from Puma, instead of pink Barbie costume he wore at CinemaCon. I told the executive, “They may not be as fast as we thought last week, but we think they’ve got a lot of mileage left in them”—a reference to the upside the studio is hoping for.

Warner has “executed an exciting new vision,” Cripps said as he launched the show.

The footage included an extended look at DC Blue Beetle which was presented by stars Xolo Mariduena and Bruna Marquezine with a video message.

Zendaya then graced the stage to introduce the trailer for Luca Guadagnino The challengers. The star said, “It’s fun, sexy and modern” with “an intense back-and-forth” involving “a messy, complicated love triangle with a killer result.” MGM/UA has domestic while WB has international in the film.

Zendaya later returned with him Dune: Part Two co-star Chalamet. His character is “trying to redeem the House of Atreides” in the Denis Villeneuve-directed Legendary sequel. “In The first part, was a student. IN second part, he’s thrown into Fremen culture and the horrors of the wilderness,” Chalamet said. Zendaya added of the relationship between her Chan and Chalamet’s Paul, “It’s a beautiful love story; there’s a war going on while they’re just trying to grow up.” She was also psyched about the action, “I got to do fight scenes.”

Next up are Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler and Lea Seydoux. Praised Chalamet, “What a crazy new group. Everyone brought their own flavor and got fully into the fire.”

As seen in the trailer, Paul goes through a “rite of passage” as he tries to outrun a sandworm. “The sandworms were real,” Chalamet joked. The beasts even had their own unit, “There was a main unit, a second unit, and a sandworm unit.” Villeneuve then appeared in a pre-recorded message saying he was deep in the post and introduced a behind-the-scenes film.

Greta Gerwig also took a lot of time during the presentation Barbie which comes out in July. Producer David Heyman was on hand to talk about the film, noting that Robbie’s title character had 40 costumes. Robbie then appeared in a video with Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae and America Ferrara to jump into the first 20 minutes.

A sneak peek at the August release, Meg 2: The Gap appeared next, as was an extended look at New Line’s Nun 2while M Night Shyamalan and his daughter Ishana sent a video to talk about their respective projects: her feature directorial debut, Observers (a “gothic tale”) and his trap (a “psychological thriller set in a concert”). The pair said how “thrilled” they are to be joining the Warner Bros. family.

Chalamet returned to the stage for an extended look at Paul King Wonka which was also introduced by producer Heyman. For Chalamet, “It was a dream come true. I grew up with the Gene Wilder movie. Indeed, Willy became Wonka.” For Heyman, “there’s not an iota of cynicism” in the movie, which hits theaters for the December holidays. CineEurope was also treated to an exclusive scene with Hugh Grant’s Oompa-Loompa.

Wrapping up the presentation, WB showed behind-the-scenes footage of Legendary’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, a glimpse of Robert Pattinson in Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17a first look at Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth in George Miller’s Angry, and a shout out to Oprah Winfrey’s production purple colour which she presented with a video. The studio closed the show with a scene from James Wan and DC’s sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomwhich comes out in December.
